Curriculum

Saint Leo students follow a complete, academically serious course of study using established curricula delivered through recorded online instruction. Courses include video lessons, assigned readings, written work, quizzes, and assessments. Saint Leo selects and oversees each student’s program and maintains the student’s grades and academic records.

Religion
Traditional Catholic catechesis and theology, including the Baltimore Catechism, study of the Mass, apologetics, Scripture, and Catholic doctrine.

Mathematics
Saxon Mathematics, with students placed according to previous coursework and demonstrated readiness.

Literature
Close reading of enduring works of Western literature, progressing from accessible classics in the middle grades to major works of epic, drama, poetry, and fiction in high school. Course offerings include works by authors such as Homer, Shakespeare, Austen, Dickens, Tolkien, and C. S. Lewis, with literary study approached from a Catholic understanding of the human person.

Writing & Grammar
Systematic instruction in grammar, sentence and paragraph construction, composition, and increasingly sophisticated written expression.

History
Chronological study of Western and world history from a Catholic perspective, including ancient, medieval, and modern history.

Science
Grade-appropriate study of life, earth, and physical sciences, progressing to high-school laboratory sciences.

Latin
A sequential Latin program using Ecce Romani, with placement based on previous Latin study.

Because Saint Leo is intentionally small during its inaugural year, individual course placement can be adjusted to account for a student’s previous coursework, particularly in mathematics and Latin.
